Got Type II ?
Then you can empathize with Vandi…
I was diagnosed with diabetes in 1993 during a routine medical checkup with my primary care physician (PCP). I must have been pre-diabetes many years back, but without any of the known symptoms. Since that time I have tried to control my blood sugar levels so as to delay or eliminate the onset of any serious medical conditions. I must say that my efforts have been marred with more failures than successes, but I didn't quit; I would continue.
My diabetes care team has always emphasized the need for eating and exercising right. Exercise and eating right were never part of my vocabulary, let alone my daily routine. Instead, I always ate as I pleased until I was full, sometime too full with little or no regards to its effects on my blood sugar. Needless to say my blood sugar was usually way out of normal range, even for someone with diabetes. The net effects of my poor eating habits and lack of coordinated physical activities were weight gain, low level of energy, blurred vision, frequent urination, and of course, the incredibly high and low sugar levels in my blood. Sometimes my blood sugar would be so dangerously low that I didn't have enough energy to walk to the kitchen or the refrigerator to eat! My kids were my saviors during these moments. My thanks and appreciation go to them for coming to my aid when I couldn't help myself!
That was my life prior to going to the Health and Fitness Studio.
I knew I had to do something soon but I didn't have the will power. Not even landing in the Brockton hospital and being kept for 3 days under observation was good enough reason to take action. One day late last November, my adopted mom, Peggy, told me of her husband being a client at the Health and Fitness Studio. I decided to check it out and I am glad I did! Becoming a regular at the H & F Studio was the best thing that happened to me personally in managing my diabetes. The extent of true care and real commitment Cheryl and her husband bring to their business is immeasurable by any standards I know. Their programs are uniquely tailored to satisfy their clients' individual needs. The programs are neither too easy that would drive one to boredom nor too hard that would scare one away. The programs are just the right doses for everyone. Like all health management care, one has to do one's part to make the programs work. At the H & F Studio clients only need to show up for their scheduled appointments. And, with the willingness to help in their care, Cheryl professionally works with them to meet or exceed their goals. I recommend anyone who wants to lose weight while maintaining a healthy balance to check out their nutritional program, Intrafitt. You would not be disappointed. I have learned more about good eating habits within the short time since I became a client than in my entire life!
Now I pretty much know how much carbohydrates, protein and fats I must have in each of my daily meals, and when to eat. Eating right and doing some planned physical exercises have eliminated the extreme levels (hypo and hyper) in my blood sugar about 90% of the time! I have seen a boost in my energy levels, which has led to doing more work and being more productive both at work and at home. Some of the benefits cannot be quantified, but are real.
Some of the fringed benefits of being a client at the H & F Studio are enjoying the pleasant personality of Cheryl and hearing the off and on humorous comments from Bill. They will clear off any gloominess. Sometimes I go to the H & F Studio to catch a laugh or two. Everyone I have met at the studio has been pleasant and considerate. Not that one goes to a health club or studio to make friends or expects everyone to like you, but it sure brings a nice feeling to know people care. Some days not only do I get a great workout but also a good laugh or experience something wonderful. I end up killing two stones with one bird! Oops! I mean 'killing two birds (not real birds) with one stone'.
In summary, I still have diabetes and will perhaps have it for the rest of my life. Today however, I am definitely a better manager of my diabetes than I ever was before involvement with the H & F Studio. I continue to learn new ways to deal with my health issues and I feel more and more confident each day that I can make a difference in my life situation. I am proud and happy to be a client of the H & F Studio. Thanks Cheryl and Bill, for accepting and encouraging me. You two are the best and I couldn't have done it any other way.
